Two Metal Bands (And A Beautiful Dream)

What is the best purchase you have ever made?

It will be six years in October.

Six beautiful, chaotic, years.

I can’t say I’m not blessed to have them.

The story of my marriage is not some ridiculous fairytale dream.

It’s been a battle.

Blood, sweat, tears, and treachery.

I think most marriages are like that, if I’m being honest.

It’s a story years in the making. Ancient. Mythological.

The greatest purchases I’ve ever made are the wedding and engagement rings my wife now wears.

The mark of a peace treaty, uniting to houses in a long war. A great war that my children may someday watch waged. A war against despair, against chaos, against the trials of life. A war of hope, of light, of joy in simple things.

With these two simple ornaments of metal and crystallized carbon, I made one of my greatest decisions.

The battle is hard.

I’ve made foolish choices.

But I’ve never faced those choices alone. My partner, my strongest ally, has been ever present.

Though I have been battered and broken, she has knelt above me, shield raised high against the tyrant of despair, guarding me against his cruel blade.

When doubt came whispering in, my counselor spoke wisdom to drown out the lies.

When fear bound me, she rose with a hammer of courage to break my chains.

Betrayal came, and yet there she stands, a strong tower, unbreakable. Lingering at my side, despite the odds.

What greater thing can a man have, than to have so great a companion?

I am Blessed.

My Blessing is marked by simple metal bands.
