Financial Preparedness: Beat Consumerism With A List

Simply put, the most dangerous thing for your financial freedom is the world of consumer marketing. It’s an industry using algorithms, psychological manipulation, and massive budgets to pry more dollars out of your hands.

We’ve all fallen for it. The great lie that you NEED to have this item. This object. This THING. And what you’re experiencing is a war on your finances, a psychological assault on your wallet.

So how do we fight back? Well, the key is to make an agreement with yourself, to make a list and to abide by that list. And when you make that list, you’re going to start with the VERY minimum of THINGS. The basics of food, the basics of drink, and the basics of hygiene. And then you’re going to go to the store, and you’re going to get the things on your list, and your going to LEAVE. It’s that simple.

The world is determined to sell us complex, sneaky solutions to getting rich. Ultimately, the key is to sacrifice now, live well later. Get the bare basics. Promise yourself that the beans, and the rice, and the chicken, are what you need to get you through. Don’t look at things that aren’t on the list, don’t look at the luxuries. They’re a lie, promising a happiness they can’t bring.
